The cover image is undoubtedly retouched—as are most covers—but I'm certain the missing index finger is not a mistake. The first and second joints are are merely bent back and hidden inside the fabric of whatever it is she's be holding.
As a professional print designer, and erstwhile 12—year Photoshop expert I appreciate what this blog is trying to do, but a more discerning eye should be a requirement before the mocking posts are made. Better you should snark on the crappy job the stylist did with the model's fried hair.
It's not bent, and it's not a mistake. The article is called 'Yakuza Babes', so the point is that she cut her finger off in the traditional Yakuza expression of regret.
