SEAT: Logic Is An Optional Extra

The thrust of this SEAT ad is that it is for design-conscious families. This family doesn't want the regular baby incubator. Oh no. They want something more Philippe Starck. A chap in a white coat dejectedly takes away the rejected incubator.

Which is apparently lighter than air. (Gallic shrug.)

Props to Gaduman. Bigger pics here.

err... but he's clearly supporting it on his shoulder? not a photoshop disaster, but they shoulda thought twice about the look. it's like one of those classic portrait pics where the guy stands in front of a tree that forms a big ole afro around his head. bad composition is the name of the game

If logic truly was a consideration when choosing a crib, then shouldn't they have picked one with wheels?

I agree with Bruce. Look at the stand on another of the cribs; although you can't see it, he most likely has his arm around one of its legs, like a bricklayer carrying a hod.

Aside from the way the guy is carrying it, the weird thing is why show him carrying the thing in the first place? It just looks stupid.

Indeed, it is on his shoulder -- but why? It has wheels!

I think the photoshop disaster here is that the ad would have nothing to do with the product being advertised if someone hadn't shopped it in down at the bottom.

meh.. don't no whether this was a Photoshop disaster or not.

however, the ad makes no sense. Apparently this couple is so obsessed with aesthetic that they would sacrifice convenience safety and the environment for a wheeless molded plastic alternative.

DOH!
he's carrying it because the red crib distracted him... "good design", remember?

I like PD, but c'mon, this post is a critic disaster...

btw , seat is spanish , not french , so its an iberic shrug :D

And the ugly guy carrying is also expecting from the looks of his belly : )

I agree with you guys, not a flub, it looks intentional.

Its not on his shoulder, if it was, then his arm would be around the metal leg, but the leg clearly goes behind his arm. For him to actually be carrying it without having his arm round the metal leg, even if it was resting on his shoulder would be impossible.

It is on his shoulder. His arm IS around it, but because the leg is metal, it is reflecting white. You can see the edge of it in front of his arm. This is merely a weird looking photo.

Just wont it to say that these are not baby incubators, these are just common hospital baby beds...

i think i can see what happened here (i'm an art director in advertising). In the original shot the guy is NOT carrying the crib, the client decided it needed to be added in post because they (over) thought the audience wouldn't be able to figure out where it had gone and maybe they would think that some hospitals actually had the 'starck' style if you just asked for them....way too much overthinking and photoshopping. I know, 'cause every day people ask me to just shoot it cheap and quick then 'photoshop it' later..haha

i wonder if its the retouchers that come in here defending their work. Art director above just said it even looks like a photoshop job. Having spent a lot of time on set, she/he makes good rationale. There is way that he could comfortably rest that on his shoulder without having a better grasp of it As you can see in the photograph, closer up, the post holding the crib to the wheels is not around his arm, its on the other side of it, so if the man has a broad shoulder, it might be holding the post, but very unlikely.

Am I the only one who notices the apparently dead baby on the right? I think if I saw babies that shade of gray, I'd find another hospital. :)

Just compare it to the other baby next to the guy and you'll see what I mean.

About the babies, I think it's the same baby at both sides of the man. They modified the skin color to make them seem different, that´s why the one on the right has a "deadly" look.

Suggestion: the original set-up had the guy pushing the now unwanted incubator which was on the floor. But this looked messy and maybe it wasn't clear enough what was going on as the incubator would have been partly hidden by the ones in front. So some bright spark moved it up to look (yeah, right) as if he were carrying it. It would have to weigh about 2gr for him to be able to carry it as he is without leaning over towards the viewer.

It's unfortunate

Man is carrying because the art director/photographer might have felt it wasn't clear that he was taking away the crib.

He is carrying it but his collar comes down at a bad angle to appear as if it's been photoshopped.

Clearly wheels were a bad choice on cribs especially if you intend to carry them Hod stylee.

Shoot the art director I say.

No, he is carrying it - its just not that clear that the leg is inside his arm as his lapel covers it a bit.

Look at the castor shadow through the bottom flap of his coat - also the bar the foot is on is pushing into his coat (as it would if carrying like that) lifting out the flap - no one would have thought to do all that in PS.

So as SEAT is owned by VW its a Germanic shrug to baby bed carrying efficiency.

This should be under "physics", not "logic". Or maybe "poor judgement", "nonsense", "irrational", "foolish", "impossible". All of those have loose meanings that would be appropriate. Logic is something very specific and precise and is nearly never violated. 99.9% of people don't know what logic is.
