Amazon: Hard To Swallow

  1. Clearly he's lying on the armrest. Lame.
  2. This blog used to be great but now it sucks.
  3. I don't get it. What's wrong with it?
I love you all, really. Especially Meghan, who sent this one. Original is here.

This blog singularly justifies the creation of the internet.

"What do you mean this blog sucks? I love it."

PD is making a commentary on all the people who comment here and say nothing but that. Go look at the last few posts this week, a lot of people have been whining that the recent posts suck.

The chair was probably a bit too small for the guy and he probably also did not look very comfortable laying in there. If you look at the picture where he is sitting, he sinks in the chair and his knees are sticking out, that one is not shopped.

And there is a third version of this guy on the chair... Compare this one to the other two mentioned in the comments and the posting:

And thanks for posting new stuff everyday! it's in my feedreader since day one.. ok... two... ;)

What's weird is that they've actually invented a lounge chair that you can hover in.

I never understand pictures like this... why didn't they just, I don't know, TAKE A PICTURE OF THE GUY ACTUALLY LYING IN THE CHAIR?

Anonymous said...

I don't think it's a mistake. I believe they just wanted to show the whole chair.

LOL at not being able to take constructive criticism. That's what happens when you criticize other's work...you have to expect it in return.

Being new to this (awesome) site, and not having any background in any sort of advertising/graphic design/art is there actually a reason that this isn't done? Going through the posts on here, I am absolutely amazed at what gets out there!

Why would they want to do that? They are only selling the chair? Of course they wouldn't want to show someone the WHOLE chair?!?

Hello

You have got a nice blog. There is a problem though. I couldn't find any way to search your archive. It's annoying to manually go through several months. Please add a search box to the layout of your blog. Here is a link to a ordinary search box that you can add to your Blogger layout.

How To Add Search Box

They want to advertise the benefits of the chair - I get that.

They want us to see the whole chair - I get that.

They want us to see that this chair is made for relaxing in the garden wearing our best, freshly ironed and eye crunching Hawaiian shirt - I get that.

Why can't they have two chairs set up into some kind of scenic setting - one with someone in it and one with no one in it or are they too cheap to break open the packaging on a second chair?

I don't get this stupid picture at all

Personally, I love your blog. Put it on my iGoogle.
I do appreciate that you have followed advice and circled the disasters.

this is a stupendous work of art. and i'm talking about the blog here. i have never laughed so much in all my life.

Well, in regards to "I don't get it."

I can understand where from your end, seeing people constantly posting that might get annoying.

But -- and I can't be alone here -- there are also people who just recently found this blog, find the pictures amusing as well as the commentary, but ARE NOT Photoshop experts or graphic artists, so it's understandable that sometimes we don't quite 'get' them on the same level as some of you.

Many's the pic I've looked at and thought, "I don't see what's wrong with it." I try, really. But I'm not going to spend 15 minutes looking for the detail that's wrong, and sometimes it's clearly a matter of expertise -- something that a true graphics person will notice that the rest of us just don't see at all, because it's technical in nature.

Anyway, so far, I've been lucky enough that I just have to read the comments and someone's already been there before me posting, "I don't see it, what's wrong?" and all I need to do is read the (sometimes fine, sometimes snarky) replies to that person.

But, sooner or later I'll be the poster who says that, so c'mon and go easy on those of us who sometimes just don't see "it."

This whole blog is about pointing out mistakes in others work!

Chromatically Challenged said...

Oh please! You have to be monumentally dim to believe this is a mistake. If it were the only image, you could be excused for thinking that, but there are several other images Using The Same Model.

Was there a head-slapping moment at the end of the shoot where the photographer thinks "S**t! Do you think we have taken a shot with the guy lying in the chair?" No, of course not. It's quite obviously deliberate, as someone else has already pointed out, to enable people to see as much of the chair as possible but also in context.

What's more worrying is why Amazon feel that their patrons are too stupid to know how to lie on a chair..

Anonymous said...

I don't buy that. Why would they want to show 'the whole chair' yet again after they already have included a shot with the chair by itself?

If it was in fact done on purpose, that makes it even worse.

Not a photoshop mistake.

Just a very poor concept.

I think some people are missing the point. Look at where the armrest is, then look at the smile on his face, this is a 'special' chair

How cool is that!? This chair makes you feel so rested that you can levitate!
