Sears: Let's Have A Big Hand For The Model

I have a faint and unnerving sense of dread that there is a model who is famous for heroically persevering in a modeling career despite having a huge hand and I've clumsily wandered into a minefield through sheer ignorance, doomed to be the laughing stock of the entire web. Nope, it's another Photoshop disaster.

Original is here. Thanks to ticklemeamy!

just perfect - how could they...?

...SERIOUSLY, Sears?

OMG!

This is the first one in a long time that had me laughing out loud at work. I wonder if Sears gets a discount for hiring "less-than-perfect models"?

kgvs72 said...

That's no ps disaster. That's her pimp hand.

Anonymous said...

Wasnt she on an episode of Seinfeld?

amberjack said...

The lead character in Tom Robbins' "Even Cowgirls Get The Blues" was a model with huge thumbs. Perhaps this is an homage?

"Red" Merriweather Coast said...

WHY?

Anonymous said...

The hand is the right size; the rest of her is modelling doll's clothes.

Serena said...

If you zoom waaaaay in on the original page you can tell that it's a man's hand. I didn't know they do hand transplants across genders now!

Rebecca said...

whyyyyy would they do this to her?

Anonymous said...

I wish that englishfail dick would stop spamming links here to his racist blog.

Anonymous said...

Also the hand looks a different colour from her other one!

This top will really make you stand out from the crowd.

Erm. Yes. I'm not sure it's the top that people will be looking at.

Elias said...

It is the extra big open hand, customers should put their money in...

Pesto Bong said...

Bizaare! At first I thought they'd pasted someone else's hand on there, but when you use the zoom feature on the Sears site you can see that they've actually - for some unknown reason - stretched the right half of her hand out to about twice its original width.

Tracy said...

Renegade designer at Sears putting the system to the test – see if they're stupid enough to put that online.

hex said...

You fat-handed twat!

Anonymous said...

my friend has a hand just like that. i suppose you all want to cleanse this world of everyone who doesn't fit your perfect proportions?!

lol.

Bill In Asheville said...

Lend me a hand, will ya... I have to photoshop this crap all night...

LOL

Anonymous said...

Gimmie five!

Anonymous said...

The question is WHY would they do that?

devyn said...

I think there is a pill for that...

Namowal said...

Weird.
My only theory is maybe they have an automated procedure that stretches the edges of the photo to extend the background, and her hand happened to be in the distorted area.

Anonymous said...

Maybe she whacked her hand with a hammer from the hardware department?

Christopher said...

Zoom in! Use the controls on the Sears website to zoom into the image and view the disaster close up. It's even worse when it's larger.

Anonymous said...

I wondered whether this was done by Sears, or by "Apostrophe," whoever they are. So I searched for more Apostrophe products on the site and came up with this. Yup, I think I caught them red handed.

Bill In Asheville said...

Maybe they should change the name of the line of clothes to

Catastrophe?

jus sayin...

Anonymous said...

AHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHHAAHHA that's great.

Anonymous said...

She would make a super catcher for a softball team....lol:)

Anonymous said...

Photoshop destroyed the one part of her body that could get safed from anorexia.

Hitech Stupidity said...

That hand is cute.

Philippe Roy said...

Ouch! That's no small magazine!!

Like Sears says "This is the perfect outfit for that semi-casual event"... or for all those people with semi-balanced hands! :s

Anonymous said...

That's the last professional hand-job that designer will be getting in a while.

Peter said...

but WHY WHY WHY

Anonymous said...

Actually, there was a male model who mostly did catalogue work for motorcycle apparel. One hand was never seen unless he was modeling gloves also. I think it was damaged by fire... but yes, a model did deal with a hand issue to carry on with a career.

Anonymous said...

I had a buggy copy of Adobe PhotoDeluxe where images would be partly stretched like that when I opened the file, when they were normal when I saved it. Maybe this is a similar problem.

flink said...

That big hand is the one they slap you with when they bump your sears card to a 31% interest rate.

Anonymous said...

Wow! And if you look close enough, not only the hand is skewed (duh?), but also the thumb is chopped! God, she's an alien!!!

I wish that englishfail dick would stop spamming links here to his racist blog.

He's clearly spamming, but I wonder hard what makes you think of his blog as racist.

Anonymous said...

But...but...but...how?! Why? How?

Anonymous said...

The Sears page does say above the pic - "Stretch your check"...

Anonymous said...

A refreshing return to basics and how good it is!

She is super scary but just think of the 'hand job' she could give ;-)

*stretches hand*
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Ps Tech 2: "Oh, that was good. Now put it back before you forget."
Ps Tech 1: "Yep, sure will, as soon as I finish this other part. I won't forget."

Good god!

Alice said...

I can't believe this wasn't done on purpose. Like someone said, it must be a renegade designer trying to see if this could go unnoticed or another case of someone making a joke (perhaps even to be on here).

Anonymous said...

How about deleting the spam from 'englishfail'? It's on every article...

Ryan said...

Psh. No big deal. My girlfriend can do that.

Anonymous said...

Sphereize or Liquify?

z said...

Holy crud! Its really horrible! Maybe she tryed to change a tire of her car and the car fell on her hand :S really awful! WHY?????

Anonymous said...

"Let's throw a random 'disaster' onto our website somewhere where that blog will undoubtedly find it. That'll generate some more traffic.."

David said...

When I click the magnify button on the website three times her hand goes back to normal. Then if I click on it to move the picture the hand elongates again. What would make that happen?

archipeep said...

Actually, if you click the zoom tool to zoom in just once, the hand goes back to normal. This isn't a PS disaster, its bad code writing on the website. The art director shouldn't be blamed for this, the IT department should.

txb said...

It's an autoscaling error. Apparently the picture at the website can be stretched, probably to meet size of the picture window. But instead of scaling the whole picture, which would make her fat, it suppose to only strech the right side of the image. But the shopper must have select her hand accidentally. If you scale up or down and move the zoomed picture left and right, you can make the hand return to its orginal shape.

Anonymous said...

Nice detective work!

Anonymous said...

one of the worst ever

Anonymous said...

Looks like the photo on the website got fixed...

Anonymous said...

"I've clumsily wandered into a minefield through sheer ignorance, doomed to be the laughing stock of the entire web."

It is a zoom issue so yes, you have.

Mary said...

Does anyone else find it ironic that it says "$TRETCH Your Check" above the picture on the original Sears page?

Allie said...

I don't care whether this is a zoom issue or not. It's still my new favourite. It's the way she's holding it out as if to say "Look at my giant hand! I'm super proud of it!" I would not want to piss that girl off for fear of a thwack across the face.

Norton Antivirus 2008 Crack said...

looks like real!!! waaah!! very big hand

xexe said...

I think they fixed the hand. If you look at the original and zoom all the way in, it looks pretty normal.

ewwwww that one's really bad!!

Anonymous said...

When I checked the original on the Sears site it looked fine. Perhaps some Photoshop deception on the part of the poster?

txb said...

They haven't fixed it yet. After the page is loaded, zoom in (about 2 or 4X), then drag the figure to the left so that the hand is in center. It will magically eexxxppppaaaaaannndd

Anonymous said...

I must be doing something very wrong, because it looks fine to me...

WabiSabiChic said...

Either Sears fixed it, or someone made this up...but there is nothing wrong with the picture on the sears website!! I could zoom in on the hand--it was still normal.

solidsnake204 said...

Freaky...

The original has been fixed BTW.

Ed said...

Maybe I'm missing something, but when I look at the original, via link, I can't see that the models hand is mis-shapen.

Emppu said...

OMG! Fat Hand Disease. Reminds me about the Little Britain and Tom Baker's brilliant comments.

Anonymous said...

hahaha.. nice hand!

Anonymous said...

well i dont know what u guys see, but when i visit that site and take a look at the original picture, i dont see any big hand. totally normal... maybe they've changed it or im becomin blind...

Photoxris said...

how does that get past Quality Control? I mean, really. these people are getting paid 5 and 6x more than i am and make mistakes like this?

photoxris said...

it was fixed i guess. the original doesn't look like that anymore and if it IS a photoshop fix, it looks damn good now.

Anonymous said...

They have "corrected" the hand in the original site.

Buddhist In The West said...

Ew, gross! (shudders!)

Great blog idea, very interesting!

Anonymous said...

Yeah fuckin big hand girl must be fixed now cos it aint big on the site no more maybe I blind

Julia said...

that is so fucking scary

madrugada said...

Good to know that Sears pick up on this and fixed the hand,

On the other hand, I miss the big monster hand...

Anonymous said...

Fake post.

Full Metal Jew said...

Aw, they fixed it on the Sears page.

unico said...

the only photoshopping. is whoever submitted this picture.
because the original site shows no indication of messy photoshopping at all.

just a really good photoshoot.

RadioWolF said...

This isn't a fake post folks...

If you check this site frequently... like every day, you will get the chance to see the mishaps on the actual company's website. If you clicked the link on the 23rd, you would have seen the mistake.

Usually once the company notices their grotesque photoshop error, they fix it... so as not to have other websites make fun of them.

This has happened on many websites... once they realize they messed up, they fix it. Don't blame the poster because you were late to the party and you missed all the fun.

peace

Anonymous said...

I am one of the photo editors that work at the company that does Sears images. Sears, as well as the other companies we process images for, publish images more than 5 times a day so most mistakes do get corrected that day. Usually the mistakes are wrong items in the pic but this is beyond anything most people at work would even think of. Don't worry... she was ridiculed promptly. And it was less than a week before her wedding too.

Anonymous said...

Hmmm the original one looks fine to me now. Have they altered it?

Anonymous said...

This is fake posting. it fine. you all stupid

Anonymous said...

And they paid someone to do this...a real slap in the face to the struggling real artists out there.
Oh well..

it is at least freakishly funny...going to send it to my favorite sculpture instructor. He will laugh...he will cry.

Anonymous said...

"it is at least freakishly funny...going to send it to my favorite sculpture instructor. He will laugh...he will cry."

Or..he may even bother to read the rest of the comments and see that it was a SOFTWARE error that caused it, not an artist.

Anonymous said...

It was the artists misuse of the software and a lack of interest in the outcome. Not the software alone. It wasn't the zoom function either. When you run an action in PS, as the girl who did this had, the image may be off if the focal point of the pic was not centered like the image that the action was setup for. The girl who did this didn't bother to look at the image after it was done to make sure it looked right. She did it all the time. Luckily she has a new job function now and there won't be those kinds of mistakes.

Tache Florin said...

Oh god, this girl became "handy"

Anonymous said...

hand looks corrected now on source page *sniff*

Anonymous said...

I saw the original (even zoomed in on it to figure out how it was distorted). It's been fixed now. (Apparently Sears is on top of something.)

richjerk said...

(: that is just plain weird

Em said...

strange. the link for this disaster doesn't have the problem. either its been changed or ya'll r crazy

Anonymous said...

Yup. They edited the picture.

Two-Pence said...

now that's pure comedy!

Chilibean said...

This picture doesn't match the original. Did they fix it?

Darvin said...

"Do not just give a gift, grant a wish". Know this slogan? Yeh! It is Sears!!!!!! Clothes, footwear, tools, electronics, jewelry, beauty products, appliances, furniture, and bedding – everything is there! But the company has lots of drawbacks as well. All the dissatisfaction with the services and products are on www.pissedconsumer.com. There you can post your complaints to share with others.

WW said...

You know, I don't care if this IS an autoscaling error or a zoom error or whether or not they fixed it. I actually snarfed for the first time in my life when I saw this picture. And every time I get a look at the caption...a literal ROFL. Owww, my sides.

This and the Intymnie one absolutely kill me no matter how many times I look at them.

Anonymous said...

I'd like to think that the person that made that comment about her being ridiculed is not in my department. The person who did this is a wonderful employee and produced a large volume of work without fault. The person that did this has also been promoted for their good work, not because of their lack there of.

Anonymous said...

uh... nice try, but that's not the original picture... way to fake content

Elle said...

Er... it doesn't match the original. This edit seemed so dramatically, and unnecessarily bad that I just had to check it out in its natural habitat. On Sears, it's fine. May want to check your sources before popping stuff up here.

Jamie said...

but you photoshopped it yourselves?
it's fine on the original.

"you're the disaster in this instance"

whatver

Anonymous said...

Why are you all so stupid, people who are still posting?
SEARS FIXED THE IMAGE ON THEIR WEBSITE, YOU IDIOTS. Learn to read the other comments before making your own dumbass snarky reply.

Marie said...

His blog isn't racist. You're a paranoid racist who tries to find racism in everything.

kolja said...

Did i actually LOLed it?

John said...

yes, it's incredible how many posters don't read ANY of the other posts. So you end up with a string of idiots repeating eachother and guffawing like dumb-asses. First year design students rather than professionals, hopefully.
