Microsoft: You Must Be Off Your Block To Use Vista

Thank goodness this is the only disaster connected with Microsoft's Vista launch.

Props to J!

Not only is the cutout at the wrong angle and size for the track, the lighting is obviously from two completely different directions!

Hilarious! I wonder if he is floating high enough above the ground to clear that fence. From the shadow I would guess it is only a few feet from the starting block.

the good thing is they're not cheating anyone here: right after you start running (vista), you immediately crash against the stands.

Vista: headed in the Wrong Direction.

Might be the most truth in advertising every.

Is this the first for Microsoft here? If so, we should have a welcome party..

From Apple to Pixar, now Microsoft, this blog is star-studded!

Hwow! Just hwow!

this is just rediculous

There is NO way this is an actual ad. Not even MS would. NO WAY

David said...

I guess they instructed the artist to put a runner at the end of a race track...they just didn't specify which end.

Lin said...

"Help run successful migrations to windows vista and 2007 microsoft office system?"
adn they put a guy running? thats kinda cheesy...

Maybe it's a secret ad for MS Flight Simulator... Now even better, without a plane!

Brian said...

Wow. It often takes me a while (and reading the comments) to figure out what's wrong, but this is so obvious...

There is NO way this is an actual ad. Not even MS would. NO WAY

The original is on Microsoft's web site, so someone at Microsoft at least approved it.

it may be the only disaster, but it makes up for the lack of any others.

Anonymous said...

but.. what was wrong with the original photo he was in?

I don't understand why they felt the need to cut him out?

Anonymous said...

It's worse: he's also running the wrong way on the track; probably back towards XP.

Yikes.

That's all I can say. O.O

When I was little,I dreamed of one day becoming the only person in the whole wide world that was able to run track backwards while levitating, and now that I am all grown up,that is what I now do!

See dreams really do come true!!

its....just...so...bad!

I guess Microsoft doesn't care much about Ireland.

txb you're an idiot.
Its not the tool, nor the OS that makes a graphic designer good, its the skill and knowledge, and this is has nothing to do with the OS.
I'm fed up with these immature controversies about PCs vs Macs.

Dennis said...

This is no PHOTOSHOPdisaster! It's a MS PAINT disaster!

Ryan said...

guys. come on. it's not their fault. the designer was probably using vista.

Josh Rogerson said...

omg!!! hahahahaha never seen anything quite that bad and easy for ME to pick out immediately!!

VISTA: WE ALMOST GOT IT RIGHT

Wanna hear a sad story?Whoever did this ad did it better than I could even do it.

I will now go hang my head in shame
*sheepishly walks away*

It was a joke, for the purposes of satire. If you have difficulty understanding that you should not be allowed on on the internet by yourself.

This is hilarious! I personally REFUSE to use vista for another 2-3 years. XP pro is just fine. lol

Kimizzy said...

There's no way this is for real.

Maybe they did that on purpose?

Or maybe a super intelligent 4 year-old did it, and we should all be applauding! That kid's got skills!

The MS artist must have been so paranoid about the thought of using an evil Adobe product that they rushed through it as quickly as possible while holding their nose and putting one had over their eyes. Sheesh.

Robski said...

Im a vector artist and so work in illustrator most of the time, but this is the worst "professional" photshop created image I have ever seen.

I mean was he using MS Paint?

PaperCut said...

A multibillion dollar company couldn't even try to get a proper Photoshop guy to hook them up with something more professional?

Wow.

:P

this site is so spectacular that I'm going to blog about your blog in MY blog! I've just spent forever going post through post, staring at the picture, then seeing and going "OH THERE IT IS!!"

fantastic.

Um, follow the link, Dude.

Anonymous said...

gee, would it have been that hard to just find an actual picture of an actual runner on an actual track?
i hear runners do stuff like that all the time.

Moose said...

Maybe they did it on purpose to get on this site, since how bad at photoshop to make that. O.O

Anonymous said...

He's not running Backwards, at least that is correct in the Add

mimi_dresden said...

Considering the shadow this sportsguy is obviously going to run into a fence- is that meant to be a parable or metaphor? Mysterious...
And by the way- I love this blog, thanks a lot!

André said...

You want to know what's the worst part of it? The moron that produced this "piece of art" certainly got paid VERY HIGH bucks for it!

MikeyR said...

This can't be Microsofts original work? If so... I thought they had lots of money so they could hire real graphic dudes...

Anonymous said...

It's what I've always said. You can't do graphics on a PC. There's the proof!

i prefer XP than vista.

Why would a Microsoft employee be trained to use an Adobe program?

Tony said...

yeesh. in the amount of time it'd take to dig out two mismatched photos and hack them together like this, they could have just paid someone to go to the local high school and take a picture on the track. That's just inexcusably bad imaging.

Orangetiki said...

And to think Microsoft came out with a design package. Ha. I bet even Corel could run circles around it.

Mobis said...

i found vista very useful

Mad Izatie said...

can anyone spell irony? XD vista was a disaster and so was this ad.

Dien said...

And he's off ... the track lane.

Anonymous said...

People, come on. This was no attempt to put the runner on the track. This is simply a foreground image (the runner in the blocks) against a slightly-blurred background image (the track scene). Seriously.

It is, perhaps, a poor choice of images since a bunch of idiots will look at it and think the guy is supposed to be on the track. But that's a bad decision, not bad photoshopping.

admin said...

Hmm someone was making fun of PSPC and making PSMAC look better, in FACT idiots & noobs, in the business world they use MACS for photomanip' for business and design industries. even though PC sucks, stop making it look worse than it actually is.

Self Defense said...

Wow, That one is just horrible. Who reviews the artwork?

Anonymous said...

they took it off it seems?

It's still on archive.org: http://web.archive.org/web/20080205120929/http://www.microsoft.com/en/ie/

When i see that kind of awful mistakes i wonder how much do they pay to the people that made them, because i could do it thousands of times better and i would charge them a lot less!
