i think it is the giant's fingers. maybe they thought he was a bit too close for comfort.
It appears they've added the missing arm back in. Now all he has is an extremely long arm
It's the guy at the back's hand - the arm is there and everything (and he's holding the tattooed woman's left shoulder too). They maybe comped in the woman showing off her Puma socks and didn't realize they'd turned him into Mr Tickle. Incidentally, woman 2nd left, standing on the podium - those are her feet, but can they possibly be that far away from her navel?

I was going to say the fingers are all that's left of her parasitic twin...
The link shows the arm being there. Was the submitter the one who botched this photo?
Did anyone else notice that when they added the missing arm back in, the redhead's ponytail disappeared?

Obviously they noticed the mistake, but seriously, isnt it easier to remove the fingers (clone tool, 5 seconds) than to recreate a whole arm and make THAT look stupid too???
If you look at the original, you can see it is Mr Lurch's hand on her shoulder. So maybe all that has happened somewhere along the line is that his arm was turned into a red stripe of the flag. It seems possible that his are is that long. You know, exercise makes things bigger. I'm more frightened by those two strange characters to the left of the babe with the extra digits on her shoulder.

The likelihood of the arm being turned into a red stipe is unlikely, as they would have had to add a ponytail on the redhead.
I think the arm is fake.
Helpfully, they have provided wallpaper that shows how they tried to fix the obvious problem on the ad, and failed in both cases.
The "giant" isn't a giant, he's standing on a box. Well, there are feet on the box, but they seem to be too far to his right. If his body was over his feet, his hand might make sense on the woman's shoulder. Maybe they stitched two photos, and he moved between them...
I can do that right now using my stray layer.
The giant can reach that far because he is a discus thrower.
She had a fetus in feto there, and was just giving her a pat in the shoulder for being an awesome athlete (?)
Thet two short gymnast dudes are 5'6" in real life. The long armed "giant" on the box (Brian Clay) in real life is 5'11". If you use the gynasts as your base measure, Brian Clay must be 5'5" in this picture.
What I can't get over is the size of the feet/shoes of the woman sitting on the left. She looks like she is a giant (5 feet tall while sitting down) while in real life she is 6'2" - The same height as the swimmer standing on the left.
Come to think of it - What IS she sitting on?
The blog isn't going downhill if you continue to focus on gold like this. This place rules, so don't be discouraged by a little criticism.
The original arm is very fake - it's just a white line. Also, they've removed the middle woman's ponytail in the process. I think it's a case of "Whoops, we got onto the photoshop disasters blog, better do some quick touchups." Quick touchups in this case being an extraordinarily long, very fake arm and the removal of a ponytail. o.O

The woman on the left is sitting on the very edge of the stool. If you look closely, that does make sense.
As for the size, some people are rather tall when sitting and don't get much taller when standing up ;)

My guess is that originally they had the "giant" centered over his feet, with only tattoo girl and finger girl in front of him. They then added ponytail girl, moved finger girl to the left and hoped no one would notice the extra fingers and off centered feet.

I'm with David and anonymous above: there's something not quite right about the two women on the left... the one sitting down is sitting on air, while the one standing on the podium must have the longest thighs in the world (more obvious in the original picture than in the one modified for the blog).
Besides, people with big, ugly, creepy tattoos should not be on the Olympic team or be role models for kids, white upper lip or not. That idiot will die with a blue blotchy ugly stain on the right arm. A wrinkly, ugly blue blotch if he's lucky.

The girl with the fingers on her shoulder (8o) is so badly cut. If you look at the original, her feets are absolutly awful!
They made the cutouts even more obvious by adding that red floor in the "remake".
Also, the sitting giant woman on the left couldn't possibly sit on the edge of the chair like that, she'd slip right off. And if you look at the size of her shoes, you could almost stuff the head of any of the other people into those.
This ad series won the Clio. It seems to have gone to their heads. They are seriously coasting.
Did you guys notice they fixed the webpage version, but if you click on the wallpaper links, the red-head has her pony tail again, and the disembodied fingers are there?

One of the best disasters in a long time.
Why? Because if it wasn't marked with a magnification, i probably wouldn't have spotted it for five minutes.
How about making a weekly game out of such disasters? Something like "find the error" - you need to find the disaster in the image. Time is counting. clicking the wrong place (i.e. a non-disaster) gives you a penalty. We'll have a Hiscore-List and one day sponsored prizes :D
the reason they fucked up was that they moved the flag down behind them. They def. re-dropped the whole flag in. If you look at original the bottom red stripe is much higher than the final add. also the real flag is not nearly as straight and graphic.
Obviously they forgot about the guys arm and it went awol. Now they have added it back in, but not on the FANKIT download!!
Thing is, why even bother shooting in against the flag in the studio when you are gonna use a graphic in the end?

even if they added the missing (loooong) arm back in, u still can see the original crappy picture in those wallpaper link! This is embarrassing ... they edited the picture once more ("hey, let me put a little white space in there... and we have a brand new arm!"), but they where not smart enough to place the new picture in every link...

I looked at the fankit and... Okay, so the fingers do actually belong to the guy. But holy whitewashed athletes, Batman! The frontpage pic isn't quite so bad but compared to the fankit picture, the wallpaper looks as though they're all white.

Not only are the feet really disturbing on the majority of the athletes, but the main girl in question (with the extra digits) has incredibly tan legs compared to her upper body. Either her makeup is incredibly excessive or there were some funky lighting effects going on.

I guess its an amalgation of the womens group photo, the men's, and the whole team. I agree with the softball girl on the left being huge next to the 5'6 Hamm brother.
Is it really easier to add an arm then to subtract fingers?

I think it's because most monitors aren't calibrated to display photos correctly, and too light looks better than too dark. It's the same with printed materials: Too light is just too light, but too dark blocks up and you lose a lot of detail.
Actually, I think you guys rule. Keep it up. The more laughs I get in my day the better.

If you look at the origonal closely you can clearly tell that the guy on the left as well as finger girl have been cut out then pasted in. Look at the legs and feet!
