A charming piece of ethnic cleansing by The Sun.
Thanks to Jo and Alan!

Have you seen a truly awful piece of Photoshop work? Clumsy manipulation, senseless comping, lazy cloning and thoughtless retouching are our bread and butter. And yes, deep down, we love Photoshop.
If it is commercial and awful then please let us know! Anonymity can be arranged for the easily embarrassed/canned.

OMFG
THE LEG
THE SHADE
THE LEG
THE ENGINE
...
THE FUCKING LEG WTF oO
The Sun exploded and he fell into a black hole!
I'm not a fan of the Sun, in fact I despise it, but I don't think there were any racist motives... the text above simply wouldn't have stood out as well, they left the other black guy in after all.
Pretty shoddy mind!
OMFG!!!!!!!
Horrible.
But that guy had such an awesome hat! Put him back in.
"the text above simply wouldn't have stood out as well, they left the other black guy in after all."
Who cares about the text? The Sun is supposed to be a newspaper and this is just not on! Editing for no apparent reason, my god it really is like 1984! (try it, read 1984 then pick up the sun, it's quite scary)
Uh, yeah ... newspapers aren't supposed to edit photos for style. That's called not-journalism. Not racist? Maybe. And maybe McCain isn't a misogynist for making rape jokes. Maybe.
Both photos look shopped. I think the two black men were inserted before the Metro, then the Sun made their awful attempt.
You can take out the black man, but you can't take out the black man's lower torso.
I gotta say, both photos are weird as hell looking.
The sun one is just horrible, though.
THE CLONE TOOL!!! IT DOES NOTHING!
Yikes. This is horrible.
ooh, the phantom leg and the missing motor....makes me fear the worst for the poor guy.
It's not a leg, the boat is just very happy to see the nice officers.
He fell out of the boat...or at least that's what The Sun says...
One more reason to despise the Sun.
Both black men look horribly out of place. There's something off about both pics, definitely.
They also tkaed out most of the waves
but who is driving the boat now?!
The Sun has the unedited photo with the article on their site here. I'd love to hear their explanation for how it got edited.
I suspect he's not going to do two Sun stories in a row, so enjoy:
the story
the disaster
To be fair, the Paradogs ^ might be bad photoshopping, but they do say in the caption 'how it MAY look' so at least they're not trying to pass it off as real :)
Whether or not they tried to pass it off as real, the paradogs picture is still a terrible PS.
There's a fine line between journalism and story-telling. Passing doctored photos (for whatever reason) off as actual events is over that line I reckon.
The Sun crosses that line on a daily basis, mind.
this blog is so funny!!!!!!!!!!
WTF?? I can't believe it... why the heck they erase that guy? that's so awful.
side note: the "clone-happy" tag is required here too ;)
They just butchered the guy!
You can still see his knee in the bottom pic... haha.
Funny thing is that they erased not only the guy, but also the engine. I would like to ask Sun guys what kind of energy use this boat. LOL
they're so extremely racist!
Would it surprise anyone that The Sun is owned by Rupert Murdoch's Newscorp?
haha the leeeeeeg xD
OMG the work is sooo bad..
Oh NOeS!!!! :DDD
;) O.o x)
Clone-Happy tag, PUH-LEE-ZEE!
Love the blog ;)
Love the leg. And the lack of engine. Clever old Sun.
Not racist - probably just wanted to make the picture look more professional and safe, rather than showing that they clearly just asked some random local if they could borrow his boat. Life of the heir to the throne at stake and all that.
God, am I the only one who can't read the Sun without getting annoyed?
I have it on good authority that the rastaman requested anonymity, and the metro did him over.
Oh une jambe qui se balade toute seule...
Hum :
A leg who walk alone... Thanks you Google !
He got removed simply because he wasn't in a nice row like everyone else, they had to make some room for the headline that you can clearly see at the top of the picture.
FINE WASP CANNIBALS ¡¡¡¡
To be fair to The Sun, and I rarely wish to do that, I think the motivation was more to have a less deep picture than to be intentionally racist.
If you look at the headline, theirs appears far lower than the Metro one.
But then, even I think that's a pretty lame excuse
the guy disappears in the second photo. hehe
The Sun. One of THE worst "newspapers" out there. Fantastic picture.
If anything this is a publicity stunt. It was deliberately bad photoshopping to guarantee it wouldn't go unnoticed.
Excuses for the non-journalism aside, the Sun should receive a through drubbing for the terrible, shoddy editing job. Not only did the leg get left in and the motor removed, but the cloning of the sea... A 14 year old could do a better job with MS Paint.
Speaking of 14 year olds... I have this mental image of the Editor's 14 year old nephew being given the job through both nepotism and stinginess and because Uncle figured that the readership wouldn't be able to perceive the mistakes.
The Sun is my favourite newspaper. It doesn't leave me depressed after reading it as all other newspapers do. How can it? It's so daft and happy.
I'm interested to see that a lot of people screamed "racist!" without even considering the facts that the headline was lower and the original was included inside where there was no need to take him out as there was no headline to fit in.
It says a lot about people that they jump to this conclusion without considering anything else at all. Trying to prove something, ey?
the sun is fing racist....i know this for a fact. plus...did anyone see the programme on islam recently? and how the paper told blatant lied about the so-called terrorism...just to make the dark people look bad? yeah, thats why they took the black guy out the pic...doesnt make it look good, eh!?
No, get over it. They aren't quite smart enough to manage racism. This was just questionable editing.
You can kill my people, but our knees will never die!
WTF :D nuts!
This is awfull. A bad job. In my language I say: CHAPUZA
(a job bad done).
Thank you.
I'm not sure if they meant to replace him with water--or a blue waffle iron.
nice blog yach...:D
It was too hard for them to delete the guy in the front.
What do you expect from a crappy tabloid?
The lettering of the Sun headline is rimmed in white so it would have stood out whether the guy was there or not. Is this a real newspaper? Or more of an 'Enquirer'?
Have u seen this award gave it in Madrid for a photo of J Arcenillas, who dissapeared a NUN who was en the picture with the children?
Even after the scandal the jury and the "winner" didnt renunce to the 20.000 euros Prize
See here the story links and the funny pics trying to imagine the missing nun
http://caradurillas.blogspot.com/2008/06/el-caso-de-la-monja-desaparecida-foto.html
@all guys thinking that the headline was the reason for this:
WTF are you thinking? In journalism you just can't edit a photo for better fitting to the headline! You just can't do it! If the headline can't be fit in, the headline must be edited! Not the photo! I can't believe it... Changing the headline-layout would be even faster than this crappy photoshopping.
The people saying that the editting job was done so the headline would fit better aren't saying it because it somehow excuses the photoshopping, but because it's a plausible reason other than "because that guy was black." And seriously, they left the other black guy in, so what does race have to do with this?
How hard is it?
[s]I did better in MS paint. You can't even tell the difference between mine and the original. [/s]
Okay really now.
I dont see what's wrong with the photo.
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!
i kid you.
Its 'shopped because the black guy is driving the boat ...well was driving in the first picture. The white people look more official and a black guy driving looks like some incompetence. Definitely some racist views on the photo editor ...maybe subconscious. Doubt it would have happened if one of them cops were driving to fit in the text. Maybe thats just my racist interpretation.
This is The Sun. Who actually reads it anyway?
Maybe, they just wanted to delete the man because of the title. Of course, in a wrong way though.
oH mon dieu!
AHAHHAHAHA SO CREPPY!
They were on the boat for so long, they ran out of food and have to eat the guy...slowly...all that's left is the leg.
The engine probably tasted better.
I don't think it's racist, he was distracting and out of place. Had he been a white guy, no one would see it as controversial.
I dont think there is any racism involved in the pic..
ITS ALL ABOUT COMPOSITION (BAnsky said..)
Look at the black letter on top. If the black guy was left in the pic the black letters would have been on top of him...
what will he tell his grandchildren?
The boat is happy to see the officers... LMAO
"I have this mental image of the Editor's 14 year old nephew being given the job through both nepotism and stinginess and because Uncle figured that the readership wouldn't be able to perceive the mistakes."
Actually, the editor of the Sun is a woman, Rebekah Wade. We can rise to such dizzy heights, you know...though whether most of us aspire to edit such a rag is another thing entirely
Of course it was due to aesthetic reasons and the headline space.
I'm more concerned with those who feel "shocked" because the Sun should behave as a "newspaper". As a rule of thumb, you'd better distrust anything run on a tabloid. The longer you keep giving these things the benefit of doubt, the worst.
Am I the only one who thinks it's actually the cops who are 'shopped in?
Matt - that is quality!
I don't think it's racist. Almost as f-ing stupid as racism but not quite there yet.
It's just dumb. They could have changed the layout rather than edit a picture (journalism No-No).
@Morpheo - I thought a couple of them were 'shopped too.
they got rid of the engine AND the black guy. o.o
i don't think it was really racism, but i think it was more of how the black guy might have set a tone about the photo (he wasn't really dressed up in uniform, he looked like some stereotype janitor with the hat) so it was more an editorial thing.
but hey did a really bad job! left his leg in, the shadow, the clone tool abuse...damn.
personally I would have taken out Prince William and invented the story "Royal Navy looks for giant floating spliff". Much more interesting, imho.
Yea, verily....
Dumb like unto a box of rocks....
Retarded Rocks.
*lol*
This one is outrageous.
But well executed.
Way to go, Sun.
LOL! Ethnic cleansing. Even if it was...he left out the guide in the front. hahaha...the leg looks hilarious.
The funniest I seen yet.
And The Sun added a bit of extra sun to the photograph.
dam i thought the sun was a quality newspaper!
So what is wrong with The Sun? Plenty, we know. But to remove part of a man at the back of the boat, and leave his leg behind, is just cruel. Like pulling legs off flies/spiders.
The Sun has sunk to a new low with this editing. Absolutely appalling, with no justification for the edit at all.
i wouldn't be surprised if the powers that be at the sun are racist, but i doubt that was the motive behind this.
from my experience working in newspapers, i can tell you it's almost certain that whoever was mapping the page was probably in a hurry, and if they left the black guy in it would mess up the symmetry on the page as without him, they could fit the headline in over the boat perfectly, that's all it came down to i'd say!
it's just ridiculous that they thought no one was gonna notice, since the same pic was used in every other newspaper. and not bothering to clone out the leg is just the best moment ever, hilarious!
btw just found this blog from a link elsewhere, it's hilarious! if you like the sense of humour here subscribe to mylittlepiebald@gmail.com, that's where i got this link from, it's an Irish email newsletter that takes the piss out of media/current affairs. It's really funny.
Well, it clearly wasn't a racist edit, but I was under the impression (maybe false) that whenever a photo in a newspaper was edited like this, the photograph has to be labelled as a photomontage/edited or whatever to comply with the newspaper code of conduct - or face the possibility of penalties or fines.
The leg without a body (eaten by a shark!)
of course it's not racist. Just typical of the sun's attitude towards the truth.
Check out Hillsborough everyone!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillsborough_disaster#The_Sun_newspaper_controversy
I'm staggered at the shock expressed over this. The Sun has been lying, cheating doctoring photos, falsifying reporting and ruining people's lives for ages. Why are you guys so surprised at this next chapter in their murky sordid history? It shrivels into insignificance compared with some stunts and campaigns they've been responsible for. Easy solution: STOP BUYING THE SUN. Let em rot in hell. And DON'T confuse them with a newspaper.
What's Woody Harrelson doing at the back anyhow?
Imaginary audio for Metro's photo: "Hey, look! Over there! A nude beach! Thanks Rastaman and Gangsta Rapper for bringing us here!"
Imaginary audio for The Sun's: "Oh my God! Where are the paddles? Where are the paddles? A photographer is shooting us stuck in a motorless boat and we look like morons! Where are the padd...? What the fuck! A leg! A leg!"
haha, this is one of the best in a while.
HAHAHA THE LEG IS STILL THERE
OMG, you are kidding yourself if you think The Sun isn't being racist here.
And as for the commentator who said they were trying to "make it look more professional" by removing him, "heir to the throne, etc., this is how people who work on ships for a living DO actually dress-out of uniform, you racist idiot!
Stop trying to keep the black man down!
The Sun kneeds diversity training.
Stay Black, y'all!
Racism-paranoia is a mental illness GET HELP people! No racism here.
...as bad editing as it is, i dont think this is a case of "ethnic cleansing", more of a case of "shit we need to put our header somewhere and this guys stupid head is in the way"/.
Why, just why should they do such a thing? And furthermore so sloppy...
Maybe "The Sun" is the photo that has not been modified? Perhaps The Metro one is and the chap works for The Metro and wanted to edit himself in...
It's just a Rupert Murdoch PHILOSOPHY ! ;)
Hey, I think that the boat from starters was empty, then the policemen were added, but they didn't have anyone to work the motor, and then they added one black dude, but he felt lonely, so they added one more black dude.
FAIL!
I think he just fell off the boat and left his leg behind.
nice extra leg. HAHA
To the anonymous saying it's "trying to keep the black man down". Get help, you sound mentally ill and deranged. Nothing you typed is true. You sound like a racist and insecure with your own race. The only thing the Sun needs is better editing in their magazine and to learn how to use photo shop. You keep yourself down with your stupid comments.
Stay stupid, fool.
To the anonymous saying it's "trying to keep the black man down". Get help, you sound mentally ill and deranged. Nothing you typed is true. You keep yourself down with your stupid comments.
WOW!
looks like who ever is not in uniform is sent home, even if you are the captain
Whomever said this....
"I'm not a fan of the Sun, in fact I despise it, but I don't think there were any racist motives... the text above simply wouldn't have stood out as well, they left the other black guy in after all."
..is an idiot. You evidently know less than nothing about journalism. You don't alter photos, period. There are no excuses, no explanations, no priorities. You don't do it.
Well, yes they did leave the other black guy in there, but only because he was in the "spread 'em and up against the wall" pose with a bunch of white authority figures looking on.
Now the other guy was completely unsupervised. And working the motor, which was fueled, no doubt, with BLACK POWER. Clearly both he and the motor had to go, as quickly and sloppily as possible. Cut 'im off at the knees if you have to.
