Torchwood: Retractable Thumbs

Torchwood is a kind of diffusion TV show for people who find Doctor Who too authentic, involving some sort of undead robot space monsters on motorbikes theme. Of interest to us, on the other hand, is this warped faux ensemble. What is it with hands?

Thanks to Marietta! Original is here!

Well, in all fairness, retractable thumbs wouldn't be the weirdest thing I've seen on Torchwood!

is it possible the thumb in question is up the left sleeve?

Something has gone badly wrong with that image. If I'm not mistaken the right (hers) front of the jacket is a mirror of the left side - having buttons opposite each other is a bit of a giveaway. Check the creases in the leather, they match perfectly, they've just adjusted the contrast etc. My guess is she was behind something else which obscured that side of her so did what they did with that Hillary badge, and rebuilt the whole image using what they had. When it came to finding something to do with the hands, they pretty much gave up. The fingers are almost certainly pixel-for-pixel the same on both hands too.

I'm sorry. I did try but it's hard to look at anything else with Freema Agyeman in the image.

Frankly I'm more concerned about the guy behind hands girl, to her left (viewer's right). He appears to be suffering a stroke, or possibly an attack of Bell's Palsy. His mouth and the right side of his face seem to be sagging in a frightening way.

That's Burn Gorman, Kieran. Do a Google image search for him. His face is his fortune, that's all I'll say.

I think what we can see of the hands might just be OK, missing digits excepted.

As David says, it's her right sleeve and right side of her jacket that is the major disaster.

I'm more amused by the fact that John Barrowman looks 10 years younger than he should.
Oh, and that guy behind Gwen (hands girl) always looks like that (Burn Gorman). He's kinda like the Tony Dinozzo of Torchwood...if you dare compare the two.

There's nothing wrong with the image. It's just the open sleeve covering a finger

What, are you telling me there's someone out there who watches Torchwood for the compelling realism? I know I watch it for pterodactyls and rampant homoeroticism. They'll probably turn Gwen's retractable thumb into a "plot" point.

Maybe it's the missing finger from that Sony girl a few posts back.

You should see her feet!

I'll have to agree with David.... they just took her jacket, flipped it, moved it slightly up(or down) and they figured they've done a wonderful job.

i agree with david as well, to me the left hand is right, but the right hand is just a sleeve, what it looks like they did was add a few finger under the left hand (in a way that would never be possible) to make up for the right hand.

and what is up with Burn Gorman's legs? if someone could please tell me where they are, because i would like to be wrong about this.

the right hand is missing what looks like two fingers, by the way.

Jarus, I couldn't bend my thumb that far back.
Besides, am I the only one to see that the fingers on the bottom hand are fatter than the fingers on the top hand?

That's no photoshop disaster, that's Sci-Fi!

The poor girl is missing at least one finger on her right hand, and I think her thumb was amputated. If her thumb was up her sleeve you'd see the base of it and the palm would be wider there. Based on the nails, I think some of the fingers look like they could have been flipped or duplicated.

As far as Burn Gorman's legs...maybe he has a "wide stance?"

Disaster or not...I'd still hit every last one of them.

I can get my thumbs to go back enough that they'd be out of sight...but then, my thumbs come out of their sockets.

I like your blog, it's very interesting. Now, I know what don´t to make :-)

Even if they added a disclaimer saying "All misstakes you find due to Photoshop shortcommings" they still would be targetted as the stupid idiots they are...

compared to some of the things seen on Torchwood, this is the least of the absurdities.

Drr which way do hands go again?

My FAVORITE part of this site are how many people just CAN'T BELIEVE that any photo, ever, has ever been toyed with, and that everything has a logical explanation. You know, the old "the thumb is up the sleeve" optical illusion thing.

Oy.

Even if it were her hands, she would suffer from a badly broken wrist, as one hand has got an angle of 90 degrees to the arm. Also it looks to me that her right sleeve is filled, while the left one is empty. The corner of the sleeve ends directly on the hand without any space in between.

Possibly she chopped off her left hand and just holds it there, hoping nobody is taking notice.
