Yes I like the photo, but can you leave both the american flag and your comment in the design? It really suits the overall feel that I was looking for =_=

a. It's not anti-American; it just seems to be an Australian company;

b. Going to the original, it seems like this is probably a draft, not the final copy (see the note on the second page).

If this was actually released as a final report, then yeah, it's pretty funny. :)

If you go to their website and download the PDF, the flag was 'shopped out, and no extra text included.

Hahahaha, even in the photoshopped one it doesn't look that good. Or maybe it's because I knew there was a flag there.

Trying to think this through:

I could be okay with not putting American flags on anything Boart Longyear owns or does. "Hey, we're Australian - American flags would be dishonest."

I could be okay with leaving American flags where they naturally arise - Our project was in the US, the workers put up a US flag, that's what it is.

At least they didn't 'Shop in an Australian flag.

Who still uses airbrushes??

Doesn't it take longer to type "if you like this photo I will airbrush the US flag out" than to just airbrush the US flag out?

WTF indeed!

Not if you're using Photoshop in such a way that you don't end up on this site.

Well this is just one massive fail imo - this isn't a comment accidentally left in, but a piece of post-modernism comment or something...

@Brad

No.

And if the artist didn't require validation why would he/she ask the question in the first place?

Ye I think after a little research you'll find this is just a draft copy of the document, so not really very funny :(

Actually, N, if you click through the link on PSD, find the image on that page and click through again, it seems to be from an official PDF. In either case, it's posted online for anyone to find.

Not only do I love the caption, the PSD is absolutely hilarious, too (even though the hilariousity is slightly diminished by the document's unclear officialness).

Not a PSD - that's Boart Longyear's company motto!

I have to comment, if only because the Word Verification word is, are ready for this, "boobf"!
Ah boobs...is there nothing they can't do?

smacklin said...

I think they may have wanted the flag out because it is world-wide operation. As for it not being an American company, this is the listing on their contact page:

Boart Longyear
Global Headquarters
10808 South River Front Parkway
Suite 600
South Jordan, Utah 84095
United States of America

Yeah. This definitely was not the version that was supposed to go out! (The PDF has multiple notes and comments in the body text as well.) This isn't a PSD fail and seems more like a Production Workflow Fail.

Someone needs to invest in a document/versioning management system of some sort if they can't keep track of their files...

So many people here are wine tasting when they could be having a drink with the rest of us.

Lighten up.

Maybe they sacked the graphic artist and then too late realised they needed him to edit the photo... oops, too late, so they just used it anyway.
Or, no one noticed when they used the photo, because the person putting it in could not read English.
Or, they did not have time to edit the photo and thought that maybe no one would notice?

I just don't believe anyone could make a blunder like that. How does that make it out the door? Stunned.

I like this type of picture putting American flags.

Well, this is obviously a straight pdf from the working file since the designer left the blank indesign pages in place. Also it's not press ready because it's not in printer spreads but right-reading spreads. So I'm going to blame the web designer and the graphic designer (probably the same person) for uploading the wrong file. But couldn't they at least remove the blank pages now?
